Shishkin Ivan Ivanovich 1832-1898

One of the greatest Russian landscape painters, as well as an engraver and graphic artist. With special mastery he conveyed greatness and might of the Russian nature, its vast expanses. Most of his works are dedicated to forest life. Main masterpieces: "Midday", "In Moscow's surroundings", "Wheat", "Woody expanses", "Morning in the pine forest", "Rain in the oak forest", etc. Shishkin was a people's painter. All his life he studied the russian, mostly northern, woods. He studied the russian tree, the russian thick of the forest, the russian wilderness. It was his kingdom, and here he has no competitors, he is the only one.
